London faces a crisis as stats of phone thefts increase rapidly

Londoners face losing their phones every time they step outside, due to the skyrocket in phone thefts in London in 2024.


Phone thefts in London have dramatically increased in the past five years, from around 67,000 in 2019 to just over 94,000 in 2023.


Government figures state that phone snatchings have increased in the UK by 150% in the last year and statistics show that a phone is stolen every six minutes.

Deptford Greggs thefts skyrockets in recent months say staff

Deptford Greggs staff have reported growing frustration with higher levels of theft this year. 


The recent cost of living crisis has led to a rise to extreme shoplifting, with staff claiming a minimum of two thefts per day, ranging from sandwiches, crisps and drinks.

Gentrification leads to drastic changes in Deptford

Many areas in London are affected by gentrification but the Lewisham borough has come under the top ten most gentrified areas recently, according to a study from the Evening Standard.


This is evident in the town of Deptford, with around 3 new developments being built and major changes being seen within the past 5 years. One most notably being Deptford High Street.
